Optimizing Ergonomic Work Posture to Improve Health and Productivity at Joton Village Hall Office

SemarangA healthy and ergonomic work environment plays an important role in improving worker welfare and productivity. The application of proper ergonomic principles can prevent various health disorders, especially Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs), namely complaints of muscles, joints, and bones such as back pain, neck, shoulders, and hands due to inappropriate work postures.

One of the work environments that requires attention to ergonomics is the village hall, which is the center of public services. Village officials often spend hours in front of their desks typing or serving residents directly, so that unergonomic work postures can reduce comfort and work efficiency. This is a concern for Undip KKN students to apply ergonomics in village halls in order to create a healthy work environment, increase the productivity of village officials, and support more optimal public services.

The ergonomic work posture optimization activity was carried out at the Joton Village Hall Office, Jogonalan District, Klaten Regency on January 23, 2025. The activity began by introducing ergonomics to the village officials of the Joton Village Hall Office. Village officials were also given knowledge related to the benefits of ergonomics in work and the characteristics of workers experiencing ergonomic issues as well as the risks that arise due to incorrect work posture, namely Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs). After that, village officials were given guidance on improving work postures covering upright sitting positions, namely the distance between the arms and the mouse and keyboard, the distance between the eyes and the screen, and how to reduce symptoms of eye fatigue and how to lift and move objects properly. After the presentation of the material, an ergonomic work posture was applied to village officials who experienced MSDs complaints due to inappropriate table height by replacing the village official’s work desk with a higher work desk and changing the layout of the computer screen. In addition to improving the work desk, they were also directed to improve sitting posture by sitting upright and maintaining the distance between the arms and the table and the distance between the eyes and the screen.

With the implementation of ergonomics at the Joton Village Hall Office, it is hoped that village officials can work more comfortably and avoid the risk of musculoskeletal disorders that can reduce productivity. Changes such as adjusting the height of the work desk, improving sitting posture, and adjusting the distance between the eyes and hands to the computer screen are the first steps in creating a more ergonomic work environment. The success of this implementation can be an example for other government agencies in optimizing the health and work efficiency of village officials. This program is also in line with government efforts to improve worker welfare and support better and quality public services.
