Improving Service Efficiency: Implementation of the 5R Concept at Joton Village Hall
Semarang – Creating an efficient, clean, and safe work environment is key to increasing productivity and building a positive work culture. One effective way to achieve this is by implementing the 5R principle (Ringkas, Rapi, Resik, Rawat, and Rajin). The 5R concept serves to create a well-organized workplace, minimize waste of time and resources, and improve work quality.
The village hall, as a center for community services, has an important role in supporting various administrative needs and activities of the local community. However, in the midst of its vital function, the village hall often faces challenges in the form of piling up files, unorganized equipment, and undisciplined work habits. This problem is the main focus of Undip KKN students to help the Joton Village Hall in implementing 5R as a work culture for village officials.
The implementation of the 5R concept was carried out at the Joton Village Office, Jogonalan District, Klaten Regency on January 20, 2025. The activity began by introducing the origin of the 5S culture (Seiri (Compact), Seiton (Neat) Seiso (Clean) Seiketsu (Maintain) Shitsuke (Diligent)) in one of the automotive industries in Japan and the main objectives of 5R. In addition, village officials were also given knowledge about the benefits of implementing 5R in the workplace. After that, village officials were given knowledge and implementation of concise, neat, clean, maintain, and diligent. After the presentation of the material, the implementation of 5R was carried out by giving an example of cleaning one of the village officials’ workplaces.
The implementation of 5R at the Joton Village Hall is expected to have a positive impact on increasing efficiency, order, and quality of service to the community. With changes in more disciplined work habits and a more organized work environment, village officials are expected to be able to provide faster and better quality services. This implementation is not only to overcome existing internal problems, but also to build a better and more sustainable work culture at the Joton Village Hall. It is hoped that in the future, the 5R concept can continue to be applied and become a habit in daily activities, thereby creating a more productive work environment and supporting village progress.
